Yes board and train programs work, especially when the client is committed to maintaining the training once their dog comes home. Dogs can make great progress during a board and train, but lasting results depend on the owner following through with the same dog training, obedience training, and structure afterward. Without that consistency, many dogs slip back into old habits. We emphasize that success isn’t just about what happens during training—it’s about what you do after. We make sure you are prepared when your dog comes home with training resources and lifetime group classes.

No your dog won’t forget what they learned when they come home, as long as you continue the boundaries and structure your trainer has put in place. Dogs thrive on consistency, so when you follow through with the same dog training, obedience training, and expectations they learned, those behaviors will stick and continue to improve. Most regressions happen when the rules change or aren’t reinforced at home. We encourage board and train clients to come to the first three months of group classes to continue their education to the fullest.

Both board and train programs and private dog training can be very effective—it really comes down to your goals and how quickly you want your dog to learn the material. At Cornerstone Dog Training, both options require the same level of consistency from you as the owner to maintain results long-term. The main difference is the pace: our board and train program is completed in about 3 weeks, allowing your dog to learn quickly in a structured environment, while our private training program runs about 8 weeks, giving you more time to learn and apply the training alongside your dog. No matter which option you choose, your commitment at home is what ultimately determines your dog’s success.
